About Kut the Knit

Hi!

I'm Kat, yes, the one that made Taylor's Beanie.

I specialize in curating one-of-a-kind vintage knitwear and other cute/eclectic pieces you’d find in your grandma's closet. In addition, I am a fiber artist – from crocheting and knitting to tufting.

Embarking on this creative journey in 2018 during a fashion design internship in California, I found myself at the intersection of passion and practicality. Faced with the challenges of making ends meet on a minimum wage in the midst of California's high living costs, I decided to turn my love for thrifting into a meaningful venture. With a desire to contribute to the fashion industry without adding to its waste, I started selling thrifted pieces online as a side hustle. The turning point came in 2022 when I decided to take this more seriously. Venturing into pop-up events around Kansas City, where I showcased my love for vintage knitwear and handmade accessories, I adopted the name 'Kut the Knit' – a playful nod to my enduring fascination with knitwear.

Despite the initial confusion surrounding the name – yes, I mainly crochet now – the brand gained momentum (thanks Taylor! 🧡) , fueled by my dedication to fiber arts and commitment to using secondhand materials. Kut the Knit is more than a cheeky play on words; it's a reflection of my obsession with textures, thrifting, and the desire for a sustainable creative outlet.

So Kut the Knit! & let me be your sweater dealer. 😉🔪🧶✨
